During the meeting of the parliamentary committee on public order and the fight against corruption, the deputy of the Kyrgyz parliament, Karim Xanzheza, called for the legalization of cryptocurrencies in the country.
Xanzheza advocated the development of a legal framework for the crypto market and proposed amendments to the bill, which provide for the legalization of virtual assets.
The parliamentarian believes that the country is ideal to take advantage of the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies and proposed launching its own national digital currency. In his opinion, the government should focus on the development of a sovereign national digital currency, which the National Bank does not pay enough attention to.
Karim Xanzheza also advocated the creation of a cryptocurrency exchange by attracting highly qualified specialists in this area, similar to how it is done in the United Arab Emirates.
Kyrgyzstan positions itself as a crypto-friendly country that has made great progress in regulating the cryptocurrency market, as bitcoin is considered a commodity and is allowed for transactions.
In August 2021, the government developed national rules for cryptocurrency exchanges, giving them legal status in the country. However, there are no laws regulating the circulation of cryptocurrencies yet, there is only a bill “On the circulation of cryptocurrencies”, proposed by the National Bank.
